Looking for new friends during my stay in Rome

I will be living in Rome for a month as part of a study abroad program. I am looking forward to making friends from everywhere! I would love to strengthen my (non-existent) Italian skills as well as take advantage of social/culture events both tourist-y and local.
I will be in Rome on May 25.
