Explore Rome and make new friends!
Let's go to discovery the masterpieces of
the enigmatic, fascinating and rebellious Caravaggio!
What is the Programme?
The first stop is at Caravaggio's most important public
commission: the three revolutionary scenes on the life of Saint
Matthew in the Church of Saint Luigi of France. We
continue nearby in the Church of Sant'Agostino so as to
admire the great canvas of the Madonna of the Pilgrims.
This painting contains a tender portrait of Lena, one of
the painter's lovers, dressed as the Virgin. The tour continues
along Via della Scrofa and Via di Ripetta as we examine Caravaggio's
most tormented and violent periods that were carried out in this
zone of the city.
The tour finishes in Piazza del Popolo at the Chiesa di Santa
Maria del Popolo where Caravaggio painted the two masterpieces:
the Conversion of Saint Paul and the Crucifixion of
Saint Peter. Began in the 1400's, this church was modified
in the 1600's under the influence of Coveting, Sansovino, Pinturicchio,
Mino from Fiesole, Raffaello and Bernini.
This tour will take place in two different languages, English
and Italian, and lasts approximately 2 hours and a half.
